The Parliament of Armenia elected the former president of the country Serzh Sargsyan as a new prime minister of the country. At the special meeting seventy-seven deputies voted for him, seventeen – against.

He conveyed his post to Armen Sarkisyan on 9 April. Sargsyan became the first president to be elected by parliament after the country became parliamentary in 2015.

At the same time opposition is protesting. Thirty people who show they are against Sargsyan were detained.

Sargsyan was a prime minister of Armenia in 2007-2008. In February 2008 and in 2013 he was elected as the president.
