This week ‘The Death of Stalin’ film was presented on American independent cinema festival. British director Armando Iannucci finds the film funny, but true. The team studied archives and consulted historians, some actors even communicated with the victims of dictator’s regime.

‘We respect the history of Soviet Union and everything that was happening in 1950th. You can feel it when you watch the film.’ – says Armando Iannucci.
Russian critics called marshall Zhukov a subhuman. Actor playing his role says he knew about such reaction, but he cares about the opinion of his friend, whose family suffered from Stalin’s repression, more.
‘They are looking forward for the film, because then only laugh could save them. At that time people thought out anecdotes about Stalin just to save their dignity. ’ – comments actor Jason Isaacs.

A rising star of the world cinema, Andrea Riseborough, who plays the role of Stalin’s daughter shares her impressions: ‘ It’s unbelievable how strong and clever she was. I couldn’t imagine what happens in the soul of the person, the father of which is Stalin. The most difficult for me was to show her feelings.’

The director is certain that the only people who won’t like the film are current members of the communist party.

However, Russia banned the movie, but in spite of it, the comedy was alrealy shown in Moscow Pioneer cinema.
