The president of the US Donald Trump reacted to the critisizm from the side of the EU concerning new steel taxes. He also threated to raise customs on European cars.

Trump wrote about it on Saturday in Twitter: “The European Union, wonderful countries who treat the U.S. very badly on trade, are complaining about the tariffs on Steel & Aluminum. If they drop their horrific barriers & tariffs on U.S. products going in, we will likewise drop ours. Big Deficit. If not, we Tax Cars etc. FAIR!”

In response, the EU expressed negative reaction. The EU trade commissioner Cecilia Malmström wrote in Twitter: “As a close US trade and safety partner the European Union has to be excluded from the announced measures”.

The US pointed out that new tariffs will also affect Canada and Mexico. However, they promised to discusses them with each country separately.
