The only in the USA museum of sweets’ history is located in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. It was founded 8 years ago and exhibits sweets from ancient till present times.

The owner of the museum knows the story of each candy. She points out that mass production of sweets started in 1806. All sweets are attached with a short description of their history. Visitors read it with pleasure and taste products.

The first candies were used as medicine. There some unusual sweets, too. The most presious exhibit is the pack with roasted worms, bugs and crickets. They used to be a ‘sweet snack’. In 1950 in the USA appeared waffles with ants in chocolate. In the middle of the XX century fruits and nuts in chocolate were very popular among people who played cards.

Old people come to the museum to taste the sweets of their childhood.

Susan Benjamin is not just an owner of the museum. She is also an author. She wrote a book about sweets evolution named ‘Sweet as Sin’.
